From glassware to electronics, proper packaging is what stops damage in transit. These are the basics every business sending fragile items should follow.
The essentials
- The right box: sturdy cardboard in a size that fits; avoid worn, reused boxes.
- Cushioning: bubble wrap, packing peanuts or air pillows, with no empty space for items to move.
- Sealing: good packing tape in an H pattern across the seams.
By type of item
- Glassware: wrap each piece separately; heavier items at the bottom; fill the gaps.
- Electronics: use the original packaging if you have it, with anti-static cushioning.
- Documents and artwork: rigid tubes or flat document envelopes, and plastic sleeves against moisture.
Label it
Mark the box "Fragile" on more than one side, and add handling notes in the special instructions when you book.
